Project aims to conserve native stingless bees in Erechim

It was approved at the ordinary session last Monday (8) the bill authored by councilor Romildo Protector (MDB), aimed at the conservation of stingless bees in Erechim. The initiative has, among your purposes, the installation of meliponaries in schools, community gardens, squares and other public or private green areas located in the urban and rural perimeters of the municipality, always with the owner's authorization.

The creation of the project in question took place, as the congressman explains, from a worrying scenario observed worldwide, since the countless transformations promoted by man in the natural habitat have been a threat to several species - among them, bees, responsible for about 75% of food production in the world from pollination. "Preserving the lives of these beings in cities is essential for the stability of ecosystems and the sustainability of agriculture. Millions of bees are killed annually due to pesticides, as well as the lack of knowledge of alternatives for removal in urban areas", stand out.

In addition to directly assisting in the production of many types of food, stingless bees also play an important role in the economy.. "The meliponic producer is an important economic activity, not just for honey production, as well as the supply of propolis, pollen and royal jelly, used especially for therapeutic purposes", says Romildo. After being approved by the Chamber's plenary, the project, now, depends on the sanction of the Executive Power to enter into force in the municipality.
