Ordinance 444 ICMBio

The newly edited Ordinance 444 from 17 December 2014, produced by IBAMA and ICMBio and published by the Ministry of the Environment, put 5 bee species (1 lonely and 4 native), in the list of species at risk of extinction in Brazil.

Despite the criteria for forming this list, the gravity of the fact lies in the interdependence of bees with nature, some of them being unique in the pollination activity of certain plants. Now, if a certain species of bee disappears, the plant that is dependent on you, it will no longer be able to have its fruits fertilized, and this causes a chain imbalance.

Native bees, in particular, has been suffering significantly from the reduction of its biomes, extensive deforestation, climate change and the growing use of pesticides.

And a finding like this only reinforces the importance of initiatives that publicize the need for their protection and the entire environment.

But it is still necessary to consider the effort of the activity of the meliponicultors, that taking care of the breeding of their bees play a unique role in the preservation of these species. Give treatment that excludes them as part of the solution to the problem of declining pollinators, is, no minimum, a partial vision action on meliponiculture in Brazil.
